Training für Ihr Graduiertenkolleg

Example: Here's what a customized course for your graduate research training program might look like.

Training für Ihr Graduiertenkolleg

You would like to organize a “Introduction to Python” transferable skills training course for the doctoral students in your Research Training Group, one that is specifically tailored to the group. To this end, you are looking for a suitable instructor.

The training is intended for 25–30 participants from Berlin and Potsdam (TU, HU, FU, University of Potsdam), and FMP Berlin-Buch) in the fields of molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, microbiology, structural biology, computational chemistry, synthetic methods, and analysis.

You envision a course that is as practical and hands-on as possible, held over two days, in English, and in person. The course should also be accessible to doctoral students with no prior knowledge; for example, setting up a development environment (such as Anaconda and Jupyter) and Python basics (syntax, functions, classes, file and data handling, data processing) should be integral parts of the training.

Ideally, participants should leave the course able to process and analyze their own experimental and other scientific data, generate statistics, and present everything graphically. A few practical examples incorporating the most useful libraries should be covered. The data may come, for example, from the fields of structural biology, spectroscopy (NMR, MS, IR, etc.), physical and analytical chemistry, biochemistry and molecular biology, and/or pharmacology. Finally, the use of AI for programming and the integration of APIs should also be addressed.

Learning Goals

  • Set up an environment using Anaconda and Jupyter
  • Understand and apply Python basics
  • Process, analyze, and graphically represent scientific data
  • Use AI for programming
